The Science And Design of Engineering Materials
The Science and Design of Engineering Materials, 2nd Edition, offers modern coverage of materials by asking the reader to think in terms of properties of materials. This is called an integrated approach because it stresses fundamental concepts applicable to all materials first, then points out the unique characteristics of each material class. The author team has the collective expertise to explain the important aspects of materials science and engineering and to do so in an interesting way by including familiar and technologically important applications.
Some important changes to the 2nd edition are:
1. Materials in Focus CD-ROM-each book comes with the Materials
in Focus CD-ROM, designed by the authors to enhance the text-
book for students and instructors. The CD-ROM contains a
dynamic phase diagram tool, over 30 animations of concepts
from the text, and photomicrographs from the text. Every item
on the CD-ROM is directly linked to a concept, illustration,
or problem in the text.
2. Materials in Action-each chapter begins with a motivational
insert called Materials in Action. This feature introduces the
reader to important concepts in the chapter through the use of
real world events and applications.
3. New Problems-over 225 new homework problems have been added,
including many design problems. Answers to Select problems
appear in an appendix. And a complete solutions manual is
available to instructors who adopt the text.
4. http://www.mhhe.com/sdem2e a Web site for the book has been
established to help instructors and students get the most from
the text. In contains information about the book, supplements,
important Web links, and teaching resources.
