This is My Road: Life is what you make it
Born in Sakai - the city of bicycles, Yoshizo Shimanos's life story was destined to be intertwined with the story of the bicycle. This is My Road follows the journey of Yoshizo Shimano from being a mischievous young boy and his rite of passage to becoming the Chairman of Shimano Inc.
Founded by Shozaburo Shimano in 1921, Shimano Iron Works is now Shimano Inc. A multinational corporation with over 7,700 staff members and offices in 21 countries. A proud producer of bicycle components, sport fishing equipment and recreational tools that allow people to enjoy nature and have a healthy lifestyle.
The company's remarkable success can be credited to the foresight, resolve and flair of the Shimano family. Following their father's dream, the Shimano brothers have led the company through more than 80 years of successful existence. A third generation now heads a company whose name has become synonymous with excellence.
Yoshizo Shimano is the Chairman of Shimano Inc., a leading bicycle components manufacturer and an established brand in fishing tackles. After earning his economics degree from Keio University, Tokyo, Yoshizo briefly worked at an automobile sales company before joining Shimano Industrial Co.,Ltd., now Shimano Inc. He established the company's first overseas operation, Shimano American Corporation in New York City in 1965, and in 1972, Shimano set up an European base in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Yoshizo returned to Japan in 1992, and has since served as Executive Vice President and President. He was named to his current position as Chairman of Shimano Inc. in March 2001, and he is also Chairman of the Bicycle Association (Japan) since 2000.
Yoshizo lives in Japan with his wife and he continues to enjoy cycling.
