This book aims to provide students on technician and national certificate courses with an introduction to good practice in the design of jigs & fixtures.
The basic requirements in the design of jigs and fixtures are outlined in the first chapter, followed by a brief discussion of planning. More detailed accounts of the design of locators and clamping devices are followed by chapters on drill jigs; miling fixtures; turning, grinding, and broaching fixtures; and indexing jigs and fixtures.
Form tool design and calculations are clearly explained, and standard gauges as used on the majority of ordinary production components are described.
The book concludes with a brief discussions on press tools, followed by a selection of exercises.
In this new edition, SI units have been used throughout, and the lists of relevant British Standards have been brought up to date.
