On Organisational Understanding, TQM and Other Unfinished Business
TQM seems much more intangible than I had assumed. Without preparation on systemic views it would have been difficult to fulfil the assignment. The course has offered a solid base on knowledge of modern business.
To understand the practical application of theory I looked at issues concerning TQM, it’s definition and on personal motivation. Project structure, objectives, approach and define the two main tasks were next:

. Compare organizational elements to TQM definition
Gathering data,, the TQM complexity, Total Systems Intervention (TSI) and meaning of creativity was explained in context with the system of systems methodology (SOSM) and describing the ‘system Therma’ with metaphors.
The TQM decision making by Therma was compared to theory and noted that TQM is a TSI method in it’s own right. Historical influences and development from the 60s on strategies, on quality and on subjectivity was compared to today’s industry.
The Viable Systems Model and Contingency theory (CT) were introduced. VSM elements (System in Focus, systems 1-5), CT subsystem, strengths & weaknesses of both methods were determined.
The diagnoses by VSM of Therma revealed no real problems which would have justified research. Therefore, by intention I had no recommendations prepared, because it was not an objective. The VSM was presented on a special overview, integrating all important links and elements.
Three TQM elements (internal customers, process and product improvements) were compared to the TQM definition. Contingency theory, applied to product assembly line, was looked at for interdependent elements and tangible attributes. Both methods seem applicable in practice, but they need flexible interpretation (VSM and system in focus) and tailored to the real situation.
I could have done better what my time management was concerned, but I am satisfied with learning effect, understanding of the organization and actual application of the two methods.
I have perceived my host organization as a competent, modern and advanced enterprise focusing on core competencies (high quality, mastering of processes).
