Accident Prevention A Worker's Education Manual
Every year, over 15 million workers throughout the world are the victims of occupational accidents. Fatal accidents, and those causing permanent or temporary disability, lead first & foremost to human suffering: they also lead to lost time at work & to economic waste.
From both the human & the economic viewpoints, therefore, accident prevention is a matter of the greatest importance to all concerned. Workers are becoming more & more aware of the role that they, & the management, can play in reducing the number of occupational accidents, and to this end trade union leaders and members will find Accident Prevention an invaluable aid.
The 14 chapters in the manual are full of examples and practical advice & lend themselves both to group work and to individual study. After a discussion of the causes and effects of accidents, the importance of reporting all accidents and of keeping records for statistical purposes is stressed. The basic principles of accident prevention are given, and it is clearly seen that the observance of these principles helps not only to reduce human suffering but also to refine production processes, thus leading to higher productivity. The role of the trade union is shown to be particularly important, for example in the setting up of safety committees and in training workers and making them aware of the need to be "safety minded".
